Residential rates remain among the lowest in Alberta for high-quality County infrastructure and services
At the May 5, 2026 Regular Council Meeting, Lac La Biche County Council approved 2026 property tax rates, holding the line on County property tax rates (which remain at 2024 levels).
Residential and farmland tax rates are 3.3746 mills, urban non-residential rates are 10.1500 mills, and rural non-residential rates are 19.0130 mills. Mill rates represent how much tax is owed per $1,000 of property value. Property value is determined by our assessors.
For a home with an assessed value of $450,000, this will mean $1,518.57 in municipal taxes, which places our residential rates among the lowest in Alberta. This funds excellent County services that are provided free-of-charge or at subsidized rates, allows us to continue attracting new investors and development, and enables high-quality infrastructure builds like the New Aquatics Facility at the Bold Centre.
The County’s tax bill also includes provincial requisitions to fund education and seniors’ lodges, but these are outside the County’s control. Residents may also see increases or decreases in their tax bills this year due to changes in their property’s assessed value, changes to provincial requisitions, or both. For example, Alberta School Foundation requisitions are up this year by about 7% across the board, and Greater North Foundation requisitions are up by 3.45%. These requisitions are set by the Province – the County is mandated to collect provincial requisitions with municipal taxes.
“Council is focusing our energies on four transformational priorities that will define Lac La Biche County’s future,” says Mayor Paul Reutov. “We are zeroing in on the foundational pillars of Recreation & Tourism, Social Wellness, Industry Growth, and Education to set our community up for success. We are using every tax dollar wisely, turning our region into a four-season signature destination for tourists, a provincial hub for public safety training and skills development for students, and a community built around excellent health, housing, and childcare supports for both new and existing residents. Council is proud that we can offer all this without raising municipal tax rates.”
Tax payments are due by Tuesday, June 30, 2026.
