The Bonnyville Sr. Pontiacs were on the road for a Saturday evening game in Eckville, falling short 4-2. Assistant Coach, of the Sr. Pontiacs, Corey Wandler says the club performed quite well, considering they were short benched.

“It would’ve been nice to come home with the two wins; but we fell short,” on all accounts, says Wandler, “we only had 12 hockey players that night. That was a little bit difficult, Eckville is a great team.” Regardless of the loss, the team came for the challenge, “I’ve gotta give our guys credit, we should the kinda of character [you’d expect from the Pontiacs].”

The Sr. Pontiacs bounced back after falling one point behind, when Eckville’s Jeff Clazie scored in the second. Denis Cadrin put up a short handed goal from Dallas Desjarlais, which was followed by a goal from  Ty Carey (assists from Denis Cadrin and Lucas Isley).

“We had a 2-1 goal with eight minutes to go in the third, but they got one on the power play to tie it up and we made a couple mistakes after that. It just seemed like every time we made a mistake, they capitalized on it and got the lead.” Eckville put in three goals, one each from Matt SchmermundDerek Wiedmer, and Jeff Clazie. “It was a real close game and we have to give our guys credit for going in there with 12 guys. We played a good hockey game, just came up a little too short.”

This weekend, the Sr. Pontiacs will finally host their home opener, Wandler says you can expect a lot of excitement from the players, as they’ve been waiting a long time for this. “A very energized team, that’s very excited to perform in front of the home crowd and at the RJ Lalonde Arena. It’s been a long time coming.”

The team will face Eckville for a little revenge Saturday at 7:30 pm at the RJ. WIN tickets to the game thanks to Thinkwerx, Rapid Response Energy Services and Double R Heavy Duty.
