Canada Day celebrations in the Town of Bonnyville will go ahead as planned on July 1, but most activities have been moved indoors due to the forecast and anticipated high water levels.

The Town announced that Party in the Park has been relocated from Little Leap Park to the Bonnyville and District Centennial Centre, where it will now take place as Party at the C2.

Officials said the decision was made out of an abundance of caution to ensure residents and visitors can enjoy the festivities safely and comfortably despite the weather.

The Pancake Breakfast, Opening Ceremonies and Canada Day Parade will continue at their original locations as scheduled. Attendees are encouraged to dress appropriately for the weather.

Despite the venue change, the day’s lineup remains largely unchanged. Food trucks, the Bonnyville Farmers’ Market, beer gardens, children’s entertainment, the Balloon Man and other family activities will all take place at the Centennial Centre.

Canadian rock bands Prism and Streetheart are also set to perform, taking the stage at 8 p.m. and 9:45 p.m., respectively.

The Town has also confirmed that the Canada Day fireworks display will proceed at the Bonnyville and District Centennial Centre, weather permitting.

For everyone’s safety, spectators are reminded to remain outside the barricaded fireworks launch area and to respect all posted signage and safety barriers.

Town officials said any vendors who have not yet been contacted regarding the venue change are encouraged to call 780-826-3496 for additional information.

The Town says it looks forward to welcoming the community for a full day of Canada Day celebrations, despite the change in location.
