The Alberta government says it is taking time to review the province’s latest electoral boundaries report before making any decisions.
Chief Government Whip Justin Wright released a statement acknowledging the work of the Electoral Boundaries Commission and those who contributed to the process.
“We have received the Electoral Boundaries Commission Report and thank the Commission members for their thoughtful and comprehensive work,” said Wright. “We also extend our appreciation to the many Albertans and stakeholders who took the time to share their perspectives throughout this process.”
The report, which reviews and recommends changes to Alberta’s electoral boundaries, is part of a regular process meant to ensure fair representation as populations shift across the province.
Wright says United Conservative MLAs will now take time to go through the recommendations in detail.
“United Conservative Members of the Legislative Assembly will take the necessary time to carefully review the report’s findings and recommendations,” he said.
No timeline has been provided for when the government will respond or introduce any potential changes.
What Happens Next
Once the review is complete, the government is expected to outline its position and whether it plans to move forward with any adjustments to Alberta’s electoral map.
“Once this review is complete, we will have more to say on this matter,” Wright said.
