Hopes renew around LCSD high school at Imperial Park

Lakeland Catholic School Division is re-inforcing their priority of a new school build beside the Cold Lake Energy Centre.

City council agreed to the request from LCSD on Dec. 10, 2024 to draft a renewed letter of support for the construction of a school at Imperial Park.

The increasing enrollment at Assumption Jr/Sr High School is putting pressure on the catholic high school options for Cold Lake students.

By re-establishing the goal, they hope this make everyone ready for potential conversations with the province about funding, or even be ready to go right away.

“A couple [letters] have been provided in the submissions to the ministry. Of course, the Ministry of Education and the Premier have made several announcements that projects that are shovel-ready could receive funding imminently,” said CAO Kevin Nagoya during the Dec. 10 meeting.

This has been a long standing conversation between Lakeland Catholic and the City of Cold Lake.

The site master concept drawings procured by the City in 2016 have included plans at that time to build anew across to the north of the existing Cold Lake High School.

Included in the Imperial Park masterplans have been discussions about a new aquatics facility, which the City has submitted to the federal government in hopes of acquiring grant funding.
