On May 20, 2023, St. Paul RCMP received a report found human remains in the North Saskatchewan River on Saddle Lake Cree Nation. The deceased was transported to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner in Edmonton and the death has been deemed as a homicide.

The Alberta RCMP Major Crimes Unit has taken over the investigation.

The identity of the deceased is known however it is not being released at this time.
