Tales from the Timebox for October 26, 2026

It would be nice if we didn’t have to deal with any snow until at least after Halloween? Or better yet, not at all. But it looks like winter is already here, and time to get out the snow shovels and put the lawn chairs away. But at least we get to watch some hockey, so that makes it worthwhile.

Tiering is in its second week in the North East League, and some teams appear to be in the right tier while others may need to move up or down.

U18 Avalanche

The U18 Avalanche had a close, competitive game on Saturday against the CR Knights, winning this one 7 to 5. The whole Avalanche team was involved in the win. William “Billy Bob” Ballas with a goal and two assists. Brendan “Buzzsaw” Kadutski and Braylee “Free Willy” Lesyk each with a goal and an assist. Jaxon “Magic” Marcoux and Evett “Snoop Dog” Smereka with two assists each.

Liam “Sledgehammer” Swedgen, “Wild Wyatt” Fontaine, Jaxon “Smitty” Smith, Dominque “Domio” Krakowsky, all scoring a goal in this one. “Without a Trace” Morgan, Remington “Steel” Reynolds, Cade “Easy Money” Elliot and Tristan “Bobcat” Brousseau each adding a helper. In the cage, Owen “Ollie the Goalie” Grykuliak, facing 29 shots, was outstanding.

On Sunday, the U18 Avalanche travelled to Cold Lake, winning this blowout by a couple of touchdowns and a field goal. Way too many goals and assists to list. But it looks like the U18 Avalanche will have no problem competing in tier two. Who knows, maybe even tier one this year?

U13 Avalanche

The U13 Avalanche had a tough game at home on Friday night against an all-female U13 team from Lloydminster. This is not the first time an all-female team has defeated our boys’ teams and likely not the last time either. Maybe they will get moved up to tier two.

Tor “The Tornado” Aarbo with four goals, Cohen “Big Horn” Brousseau adding two goals. Three assists by Jasper “The Bear” Hymanyk. Damian “Foghorn” Ockerman, Stetson “Shack” Reynolds, Blake “Rattlesnake” Fontaine, Brady “The Bulldozer” Heathcote all adding one assist each.

On Saturday, the U13 Avalanche travelled to Thorhild to take on the Titans in a much closer game, losing this one by 9 to 5. A hat trick by The Tornado. Big Horn with two goals. Shack adding three assists. Foghorn, Christian “Bones 2.0” Yaremkevich, Landon “Lights Out” St. Arnault and Vanellope Gamble all with assists.

U11 Avalanche

Our U11 team, entered into tier three, had two very close games on the weekend. On Saturday, they hosted the visiting Avalanche from Edgerton/Chauvin, losing by a close 7 to 6.

Gavin “The Badger” Brousseau scoring a hat trick and adding an apple. Mason “Mini-Wheels” Weir scoring a goal and adding two assists. “Sir Winston” Ung and “The Mighty Casey” Younghans each scoring a goal and adding an assist. “Hard Knox” Mudryk with two helpers. Sun Woo Jung also with an assist. Between the pipes, Tucker “The Puck Stops Here” Pankiw played awesome, facing 33 shots.

On Sunday, the U11 Avalanche team travelled to Bonnyville, losing a close one to the Pontiacs 7 to 4. All four of the Avalanche goals scored by The Badger. Axle “Lightning” Aarbo, Jaxyn “Jackhammer” Krankowski and Mini-Wheels adding the assists.

The league schedule is not posted for this coming weekend, but all our teams will likely play one home and one away game as the tiering process continues.
