Vermilion’s second hand store, the Community Closet, has reopened but is in need of volunteers to keep it going.

Adults available to volunteer full days would be helping out many–all of their proceeds are donated to local charities.

Throughout the year, the Community Closet supports youth groups, sports, and organizations including the local hospital and lodge. On occasion, they have even made donations to families who have faced major fires.

They reopened on a trial basis for September, and Rose Hardy said, “We are so thrilled to be serving the community.”

They currently operate Tuesdays and Thursdays from, and depending on restrictions they hope to remain open in the coming months.

“We really need the town’s support to keep our shop going because we want to stay open to support the town. If we’re not open, we can’t help anybody,” said Diane Smith.

A half-price sale is on until the end of September, but there is currently a limit of four people in the store at one time, and they are unable to accept any drop-offs yet.

“We have everything but the kitchen sink,” said Val Wynnychuk.

“There is clothing for all ages, bedding, dishes, hard goods, and the odd piece of small furniture. Normally it helps out those people who have a lot of extra so their good items don’t end up in the garbage, and it goes to a good cause.

“Especially now with COVID, a lot of people don’t have jobs so to get a few items at a decent price is a lot easier for them.”
