Another COVID-19 case confirmed in the Vermilion River County area on Wednesday
There are now two active cases of COVID-19 in the Vermilion River County area.
Infections have fluctuated in that region the past few days, and the province’s virus data map shows two active cases and two recoveries.
There remains two active cases of the virus in the St. Paul area and one recovery, and one active case in the Cold Lake area and three recoveries.
Seven total cases have occurred in the Bonnyville area and all have recovered.
The Saskatchewan Health Authority has declared an outbreak at the Meadow Lake hospital as one infection has been confirmed in a staff member.
An outbreak is called when at least one case is found at a facility.
At this time, there is no disruption to service at Meadow Lake Hospital.
Just eight cases were confirmed in the AHS North Zone, which extends just north of Edmonton to the northern provincial border and includes the Lakeland.
70 new cases in Alberta on Wednesday
After 3,494 tests done in the past 24 hours, chief medical officer Dr. Deena Hinshaw confirmed 70 new cases of COVID-19.
This ends a brief run of four consecutive days of decreased daily case counts as yesterday just 57 positive tests were confirmed, but the number of recoveries increased to 3,552, roughly 60 per cent of total cases (5,963).
Six deaths due to the virus have happened in the past day, bringing the death toll to 112.
Eighty-two people are currently in hospital and 19 of those are in intensive care.
Infections at long-term care homes sit at 632, 946 at the Cargill meatpacking plant in High River, and 566 at the JBS plant in Brooks.
Recoveries in workers at these meat plants sit between 75-85 per cent.
Thirty-eight cases have been identified at the Harmony beef plant and twelve have recovered.
