UPDATE: St. Paul RCMP arrest thief with police dog tracking 10 kilometres

BACKGROUND
St. Paul RCMP arrested a Lac La Biche after Police Dog Services tracked roughly 10 kilometres to catch the suspected thieve.
On Dec. 2 shortly before 8:00pm St. Paul RCMP received a complaint of a theft occurring at a seasonal property near Floating Stone Lake.
RCMP attended and arrested a male after a long track using RCMP Police Dog Services (PDS).
RCMP were contacted by a complainant advising that they were observing someone breaking into their seasonal property through their surveillance system.
A neighbour attended the property on their behalf and had a confrontation with the male suspect who then fled on foot. St. Paul RCMP and PDS attended the scene and began to track the suspect.
After approximately 10 kilometres the male was located and arrested.
Further investigation of the male found he was suspected for additional crimes in the Floating Stone Lake area as well as Lac La Biche.
Other property was also seized at the scene and believed to be stolen. The investigation is ongoing to determine it’s ownership.
Jade John Mountain, 23, of Lac La Biche, Alta was charged with the following;
- Break and enter X 2
- Mischief X 2
- Possession of property obtained by crime over $5000 X 2
- Theft over $5000
- Dangerous Driving
- Failing to remain at the scene of a collision
- Uttering threats
Mountain was also wanted on a number of outstanding criminal warrants.
Mountain was brought before a Justice of the Peace and held in custody.
His next appearance on St. Paul matters is Dec. 5 at 9:30 am in St. Paul Provincial Court.
His further appearance on Lac La Biche matters is scheduled for Dec. 9 in Lac La Biche Provincial Court.
“Through the watchful eye of a community member and the assistance of our support units we were able to track down a suspect believed responsible for a number of crimes in the area,” said Sgt. David Graham.
