Four people charged in St. Paul home invasion case
St. Paul RCMP with the assistance of the Eastern Alberta District General Investigation Section (GIS) and Eastern Alberta District Rural Crime Reduction Unit (EADRCRU) have arrested and charged five individuals in relation to the robbery and home invasion that occurred in the early morning hours of May 19, 2019 in the County of St Paul.
Two search warrants were executed at residences in Saddle Lake First Nation which resulted in the recovery of stolen items. One additional search warrant was executed on a vehicle after it was stopped near the town of St. Paul.
It is believed that this home invasion was not a random act and was targeted.
Charges have been laid on the following:
Cody Steinhauer (35) of Saddle Lake was charged with 23 Criminal Code offences, some of which include:
· Dangerous operation of a motor vehicle
· Disguise with intent to commit an offence
· Uttering threats
· Assault with a weapon
· Fail to comply (x6)
He was remanded into custody and will be appearing in St. Paul Provincial Court on May 30, 2019.
Janice Jackson (38) of Vilna was charged with 13 Criminal Code offences, some of which include:
· Possession of a restricted firearm
· Forcible confinement
· Uttering threats
· Assault with a weapon
· Possession of stolen property over $5000
She was released after a judicial hearing and will be appearing in St. Paul Provincial Court on June 20, 2019.
Katherine Cardinal (29) of St. Paul was charged with 14 Criminal Code offences, some of which include:
· Forcible confinement (x3)
· Assault with a weapon
· Assault
· Fail to comply with probation
She was remanded into custody after a judicial hearing and will be appearing in St. Paul Provincial Court on May 30, 2019.
Larson Kaskamin (39) of Saddle Lake was charged with 12 Criminal Code offences, some of which include:
· Forcible confinement (x2)
· Assault
· Break and enter
· Assault with weapon
He was remanded into custody after a judicial hearing and will be appearing in St. Paul Provincial Court on May 30, 2019.
One additional male suspect was arrested and charged but his name cannot be released at this time pending the swearing of an Information.
