Severe Thunderstorm Watch for the Lakeland

Conditions are favourable for the development of severe thunderstorms over wast-central Alberta late this morning.

Thunderstorms continue over east-central Alberta this morning. Some of these thunderstorms have the potential to become severe with the main threats being hail to the size of loonies and wind gusts in excess of 90 km/h.

Large hail can damage property and cause injury. Intense lightning is likely with any thunderstorm that develops. Heavy downpours can cause flash floods and water pooling on roads. Lightning kills and injures Canadians every year. Remember, when thunder roars, go indoors!

Severe thunderstorm watches are issued when atmospheric conditions are favourable for the development of thunderstorms that could produce one or more of the following: large hail, damaging winds, torrential rainfall.
