A man wanted on a Canada-wide warrant was arrested in Cold Lake after attempting to flee police while carrying a loaded shotgun.
On Oct. 6, 2025, Cold Lake RCMP officers attended a home on 52 Avenue to recover stolen property. When they arrived, officers spotted a known prolific offender — 40-year-old Shawn Piche — running from the back of the residence. Police noted he was carrying a shotgun and immediately pursued him on foot.
Piche was apprehended following a high-risk takedown on 51 Avenue. Officers seized a loaded shotgun and several rounds of ammunition from his possession.

Obstruction

Possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose

Unauthorized possession of a firearm

Possession of a prohibited weapon with readily available ammunition without authorisation

Possession of a firearm contrary to a firearms prohibition order
He was brought before a justice of the peace and remanded into custody. Piche is scheduled to appear in Cold Lake Court of Justice on Oct. 15, 2025.
