St. Paul RCMP Investigate Robbery & Extortion
On July 3, 2017 at approximately 10:15 p.m., St. Paul RCMP responded to robbery that had occurred in a St. Paul park. A male and female approached an individual and demanded the victim hand over a cell phone. The victim fearing for their safety then provided the cell phone. It is alleged the male suspect then advised in order to get the phone back a sum of money would need to be paid within a few hours or he would locate the victim. The victim was able to flee the area and was not injured.
Police were able to locate the male suspect a short time later at a nearby residence and he was arrested and taken into police custody.
Justin Cardinal**, a 21-year-old from Elk Point has been charged with:
- Robbery
- Extortion without a firearm
- Intimidation
- Mischief under $5000.00
- Obstruction of a police officer
Cardinal was released with court conditions after a hearing and is set to appear in St. Paul Provincial Court on July 20, 2017.
As this matter is now before the courts no further information will be made available.
