Cold Lake – A 28-year-old man is facing multiple firearms charges after RCMP say a gun was fired inside a Cold Lake 7-Eleven during an armed robbery early Wednesday morning, with the suspect making off with approximately in cash.

 

Cold Lake RCMP responded to the robbery at approximately 3:50 a.m. on October 7.

 

According to police, a lone male suspect entered the convenience store and threatened the cashier with a firearm.

 

During the robbery, a single round was fired into the front counter display before the suspect took approximately $15 and fled.

 

Responding RCMP officers quickly located the suspect a short distance from the store and arrested him without incident.

 

Police also recovered a firearm from the suspect.

 

Frank Jackson, 28, of Saddle Lake, has been charged with:

  • Robbery with a firearm
  • Pointing a firearm
  • Discharge firearm with intent
  • Unauthorized possession of a prohibited weapon or restricted weapon
  • Assault with a weapon
  • Possession of weapon while prohibited (x 2)
  • Fail to comply with release order

Following a Judicial Interim Release hearing, Jackson was remanded into custody.

 

He is scheduled to appear before the Alberta Court of Justice in Red Deer on October 8 via CCTV.

 

RCMP did not report any injuries in the release.

 

The charges have not been proven in court.
