Most Successful Tip a Pontiac Night
MR MIKES & Jr A Pontiacs raise $1,710 for KidSport $1,710.00
The third annual Tip a Pontiac Night at MR MIKES Bonnyville was the best yet, “it was our most successful Tip a Pontiac Night. We’re awfully excited to see the response not only of the Pontiacs and our servers working together; but also the community, coming out and supporting an incredible cause,” Robb Hunter with MR MIKES says overall it was a team effort on many fronts that made the evening such a huge success.
Earlier in the year, KidSport Bonnyville released the devastating news that funds for the organization had run dry. MR MIKES a long supporter of the organization wanted to help out by hosting Tip a Pontiac Night. To challenge themselves a little, the Drayton Valley chain hosted a similar night, but with the Drayton Valley Jr A Thunder hockey club. The two restaurants challenged each other on who could bring in the most tips, “it was pretty close,” laughs Hunter, “Drayton Valley just came out on top. Bonnyville was able to raise $1,710.00, our most successful event that we’ve had in three years.”
Members of the Jr A Pontiacs came out and shadowed the regular servers on February 9th, during the dinner service. All tips collected during that time were donated to KidSport Bonnyville; meaning the regular servers also gave what they would have made to KidSport. “The Pontiacs look forward to it now, it’s a regular event on their calendar,” Hunter explains the players and the staff of MR MIKES are eager to help a great cause each year, “I get pretty excited for it and our servers, who’ve been around for a few years, know exactly what to do; they put the players right to work. It was the smoothest ride we’ve had so far.”
KidSport Bonnyville assists in the registration fee for kids, who may not otherwise be able to afford it, to participate in sports. For each kid who needs assistance through KidSport $300 is needed. The local not-for-profit organization funded 134 kids for $36,518.00 in 2015 and 100 kids for $28,500.00 in 2016, and 2017 applications have already started to pile up; with 15 kids on the waiting list for funding.
