Bonnyville RCMP Release Data from Annual Checkstop Campaign

During the holiday season, Bonnyville RCMP were very active in our Checkstop Campaign.  In the weeks leading up to Christmas we conducted 10 checkstops and checked over 1000 vehicles in our patrol area.  Our impaired driving numbers arrived at during the checkstops were actually quite low with only one individual being charged.  Several others were checked and issued 72 hr suspensions and numerous tickets and warning were given for equipment and other Traffic Safety Act offences.   During regular patrols, a total of 9 impaired drivers were charged from November 1st to the end of the year.

Any impaired charges being laid over the holiday season have to be disappointing for the community.  Having said that, many of the sober people we inconvenienced by pulling them over were actually very pleased to have us out there looking.  They thanked us for trying to do something about impaired driving which was very nice to see. –  S/Sgt. Gandolfi – Bonnyville RCMP
