The MD of Bonnyville approved a development permit for a secondary suite in Cherry Grove and also approved a new rural subdivision during its March 10 council meeting.
Council first approved Development Permit Application 2026-D-021, allowing a secondary suite to be added to an existing dwelling in the Hamlet of Cherry Grove.
Administration said the suite will be built onto an attached garage and will include:
- one bedroom
- one bathroom
- living and kitchen area
- two covered decks
The suite will have a total floor area of approximately 515 square feet.
Administration confirmed the application complies with the municipality’s Land Use Bylaw, and no concerns were received from adjacent landowners.
One councillor said they were pleased to see the type of housing development being proposed.
“I’m happy to see these kind of permits come out here,” the Deputy Reeve Ben Fadeyiw said. “They’re taking care of their own and it’s always great for them and for the whole family.”
Council also approved Subdivision Application 2026-S-0001, allowing a 20-acre parcel to be subdivided from an agricultural quarter section located east of Highway 881 and north of Township Road 620.
Administration said the subdivision complies with the Municipal Government Act, subdivision regulations, the Lower Athabasca Regional Plan, the Municipal Development Plan and the MD’s Land Use Bylaw.
No concerns were submitted during the referral process.
Both applications were approved by council.
