Town of Elk Point to Purchase New Water Meters
Elk Point Town Council has approved the purchase of new water meters to replace old meters that no longer function as they should, as well as, to be installed at new builds. Councillor, Lorne Young, says it was a necessity to purchase the meters, “we have several in town that we know are not functioning properly and with any new builds in town we want to be able to put these meters in.”
The new meters allow for remote reading, explains Young, “they can be read without someone going into the yard.” The Neptune R 900 E meters come with a price tag of $350 each, explains Young, “we ordered 63 with the tune of about $22,000.” This won’t be a complete out-of-pocket expense for the town, Young says there were funds available for the purchase, “we’re using some left over funds from a MSI Capital Fund from 2014.”
The goal is for every residence in town to have the new water meters, Young says, “we want to eventually switch every house out.”
