A Lloydminster RCMP officer was injured after being dragged by a stolen vehicle during an arrest attempt that led to a high-speed pursuit reaching speeds of more than 180 km/h.
The incident occurred on June 22 at approximately 9 p.m. after RCMP received a report of a suspicious vehicle parked at a local business.
Officers located a red Subaru Outback occupied by two women. Police determined the vehicle had been reported stolen from Loon Lake, Saskatchewan.
Officer Dragged During Arrest Attempt
According to RCMP, an officer informed the occupants they were under arrest when the driver suddenly put the vehicle into drive and accelerated forward.
The officer was dragged by the vehicle as it fled the scene.
A pursuit was initiated, with the stolen Subaru travelling into Saskatchewan along Highway 17 at speeds exceeding 180 km/h.
Police say the vehicle eventually turned around and headed back toward Lloydminster before coming to a stop on 47 Avenue between 49 and 50 Street.
The two suspects attempted to flee on foot but were quickly arrested by officers.
Charges Laid
As a result of the investigation, 25-year-old Kailey Roy of Meadow Lake, Saskatchewan has been charged with:
- Dangerous operation of a motor vehicle
- Failing to stop for a peace officer
- Possession of stolen property over $5,000
- Assaulting a peace officer
- Failing to comply with release conditions (two counts)
Following a judicial interim release hearing, Roy was remanded into custody and was scheduled to appear in Alberta Court of Justice in Lloydminster on June 25.
Officer Recovering at Home
The injured officer was transported to hospital for treatment and later released.
RCMP say the officer is now recovering at home.
The investigation remains ongoing.
