Community members are being advised that a recognized dog rescue organization will begin a stray dog pick-up operation in Cold Lake First Nations starting Wednesday, June 10.

According to a notice from Cold Lake First Nations Administration, representatives from the rescue organization are expected to travel throughout the community in a silver Dodge Ram truck and may also be towing a horse trailer, depending on the number of dogs being collected.

The operation will focus on stray dogs located in:

  • Commercial Lands
  • Main Townsite
  • Potentially the English Bay area

Cold Lake First Nations says the initiative is intended to improve the well-being of both animals and community members by ensuring stray dogs receive proper care and support.

Dogs collected through the program will receive:

  • Veterinary assessments and treatment
  • Food and shelter
  • Rehabilitation, where needed
  • Placement into suitable adoptive homes

Administration is encouraging residents to be aware of the operation and to help share the information with family, friends and neighbours.

Community members with questions or concerns are asked to contact the Cold Lake First Nations Administration Office.

Officials say the program is a positive step toward improving community safety while helping ensure stray animals receive the care they need.
