BONNYVILLE – Bonnyville’s Main Street project is moving ahead, with construction expected to begin this fall and continue into 2027.
An update on the long-awaited project came during Town Council’s Aug. 25 meeting, when council asked about the status of the work and when residents and businesses could expect construction to begin.
Chief Administrative Officer Quinton Wintfley confirmed the contract has been awarded to Canelson and said the Town is now waiting for a detailed construction schedule from the contractor.
“We have asked them for a timeline,” Wintfley told council, adding that the Town wants to ensure businesses along Main Street have advance notice of when work will be happening.
Some work expected this fall
The project is expected to be completed over two construction seasons rather than all at once.
Wintfley said work that could begin this fall includes surface and concrete work, along with possible repairs involving valves and manholes.
Other portions of the project, including traffic signals, paving and line painting, are expected to carry into next summer.
The contractor has two years to complete the project, although administration said it is working to get a clearer picture of how that schedule will unfold.
Keeping businesses informed will be an important part of the process as construction moves forward.
Administration said once the Town receives the contractor’s schedule, it will be better positioned to communicate when work will take place and what areas of Main Street will be affected.
The Main Street project is expected to improve infrastructure through Bonnyville’s downtown while requiring construction to be staged to manage disruptions to businesses, motorists and pedestrians.
More information on construction timing is expected once the Town receives the detailed schedule from Canelson.
