Canada Day in Elk Point is shaping up to be one of the community’s biggest summer celebrations yet, with organizers adding new attractions alongside returning favourites for July 1 festivities.
Council reviewed final planning updates during its May 25 meeting as volunteers and community groups continue preparing for a full day of activities across town.
This year’s lineup mixes small-town traditions with a few brand-new additions designed to draw all ages out to celebrate.
New axe throwing attraction added
One of the newest additions this year will be Canada Day axe throwing, giving residents and visitors a chance to test their skills during the celebrations.
Promoted as “Red, White & Throw,” the attraction is open to multiple age groups and experience levels and is expected to become one of the more unique additions to this year’s event lineup.

Duck race returns to the river
The Elk Point District Lions Club is also bringing back the popular Canada Day River Duck Race.
The race is scheduled for 2 p.m. on Canada Day, with ducks available for purchase through Lions Club members and during the community car show leading up to the event.
Cash prizes will once again be awarded to the fastest ducks.

Line dancing taking over the main stage
Country fans will also have a chance to hit the dance floor during a new Canada Day line dancing event on the main stage.
Ryan Wilson from Dance Impressions by Ryan will lead participants through beginner-friendly dances during an afternoon session open to all experience levels.
Organizers say the goal is simple — get people together, have fun and keep the energy going throughout the day.
Full day of activities planned
Alongside the new additions, returning Canada Day favourites are also expected throughout the celebrations, including:
- Family activities
- Pancake breakfast
- Perogy supper
- Live entertainment
- Community organization booths
- Soap box derby activities
- Riding arena programming
- Fireworks and evening entertainment
Council also discussed street closures, equipment logistics and volunteer coordination as preparations continue.
The Town is once again working closely with local organizations and volunteers to help organize the celebration.
Councillors noted the continued growth of Elk Point’s Canada Day programming reflects the strong volunteer spirit and community involvement that continues to drive many of the town’s largest events.
