Cold Lake city council has approved a letter of support for the Cold Lake Public Library as it seeks provincial funding to enhance its facilities.
Council authorized the letter to accompany the library’s application to the Community Facility Enhancement Program (CFEP) – Small Funding Stream, which would fund the purchase of a multi-purpose soundproof collaboration booth.
Creating a quiet, flexible community space
The proposed booth would provide a private, acoustically controlled space within the library for a variety of uses, including remote work, studying and virtual communication.
In the City’s letter of support, Mayor Bob Mattice highlighted the value the addition would bring to the community.
“This versatile addition will empower residents by providing a free, private, acoustically controlled environment for remote work, study, the sensory challenged, and essential digital communication,” the letter states.
The booth is intended to serve as a “third space” — a quiet, accessible environment outside of home or work — for residents who may not otherwise have access to private or distraction-free areas.
Supporting community infrastructure
Council’s approval does not involve any direct financial contribution from the City but signals municipal backing for the project as the library seeks provincial funding.
Mayor Mattice also expressed council’s overall support for the initiative.
“The City of Cold Lake Mayor and Council fully support the efforts of the Cold Lake Public Library as they seek funding to enhance their space,” the letter states.
If successful, the grant would allow the library to move forward with the project and expand the range of services available to the community.
