A months-long RCMP investigation tied to an armed robbery in Lac La Biche has led to a major arrest, with police seizing drugs, weapons and laying more than two dozen charges.
Heavy police presence leads to arrest
The investigation began following a firearm-related robbery in mid-February 2026. After weeks of work, Lac La Biche RCMP identified a suspect and moved in on April 1.
Multiple RCMP units, including local officers, Emergency Response Team, Police Dog Service and the Eastern Alberta District Crime Reduction Unit, executed a search warrant at a home on Beaver Lake Cree Nation.
The operation was significant. It included the use of an armoured vehicle, a police service dog, aerial surveillance and a temporary closure of part of Lameman Drive. Police say the coordinated effort led to the safe and successful arrest of a male suspect.
27 charges laid, including drugs and firearms offences
James Dean Lameman, 35, of Beaver Lake Cree Nation, is now facing 25 Criminal Code charges along with two offences under the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act.
Charges include robbery, multiple firearms-related offences and two counts of possession for the purpose of trafficking involving suspected methamphetamine and cocaine.
Lameman remains in custody and is scheduled to appear in Alberta Court of Justice in St. Paul on April 9.
RCMP say community safer after seizure
Staff Sergeant Christopher Mosley, Detachment Commander for the Lac La Biche RCMP, said the arrest highlights the impact of community cooperation.
He noted the search resulted in the seizure of drugs and weapons that “serve no lawful purpose and only bring suffering to our community,” adding that removing them makes the community safer.
Public urged to report suspicious activity
RCMP continue to encourage residents to report suspicious activity, saying public tips play a key role in crime reduction and future policing efforts.
