Bonnyville council has approved ,000 in funding for the Lakeland Lacrosse Ice Melter Tournament, an event expected to draw hundreds of athletes and families to the region.
The tournament will run May 8–10 across multiple communities, including Bonnyville, Cold Lake and Glendon.
Administration told council the event continues to grow in scale.
“This tournament will host 40 teams… and they are expecting approximately 600 to 800 athletes and their families to attend.”
Council noted that expanded capacity at the Centennial Centre is helping Bonnyville host more games than in previous years.
“We’re going to be hosting a lot more than we ever have in the past this time around.”
The funding will help cover costs such as facility rentals, referees, advertising and player awards.
