Council Settling In: Mayor Anderson Says Preparation and Public Accountability Matter

Published On: February 20, 2026By

St. Paul Mayor Glenn Anderson says council is finding its rhythm — and he’s making sure every councillor is ready to step up.

In a recent interview with Lakeland Connect, Anderson spoke about council culture, accountability, and the importance of being prepared.

Every Councillor Has to Be Ready

Anderson said he intentionally calls on councillors in different orders during meetings to ensure everyone is prepared to speak.

“I think I’m starting to notice that the councillors are getting more comfortable,” he said. “They know I’m gonna ask them… because it’s not about one person here.”

He says preparation is not optional.

“Do your research, prepare for the meeting, go over the minutes, go over what you’re gonna talk about and have your questions ready,” Anderson said. “You ran for this, or we all ran for this, so now this is what we get.”

Listening to the Public

Anderson also acknowledged that public criticism is part of the job.

“We have to listen to the public. The public put us here,” he said. “And once you’re here, then you’re representing them. So better listen.”

He added that some complaints are justified, while others require explanation — but either way, council must respond.
