Weekend Off for U15 & U18

It was a weekend off for our U15 and U18 Avalanche teams, who have finished their tiering games and will be getting their regular season schedule this coming week.

Marwayne Matchups for U7 & U9

Our U7 and U9 squads travelled to Marwayne this past weekend, playing back-to-back games — the U7s hitting the ice first followed by the U9s. That setup works out great for families, since many parents have players on both teams.

U11 Splits the Weekend

The U11 Avalanche played a doubleheader weekend, splitting their results one-and-one, which likely locks them into Tier 3 of the North East League.

On Saturday, they hosted Cold Lake at home, falling 9–3. Defenceman Landon “Lights Out” St. Arnault opened the scoring with a beauty solo effort, weaving through the whole team for an unassisted goal. Cohen “Big Horn” Brousseau added two more, with one assisted by Mason “Mini Wheels” Weir. Between the pipes, goaltender Tydis Whiskeyjack Cardinal faced a whopping 41 shots.

Sunday’s road trip to St. Paul was a different story — the Avalanche bounced back with a 7–4 win over the Canadiens. Big Horn lit the lamp six times, while his brother Gavin “The Badger” Brousseau added a goal and an assist. Maximus “To the Max” Laliberte and Mini Wheels each chipped in with assists.

This coming weekend, the U11s host their home tournament — come on down to the rink and check out these young, talented players in action!

U13 Finds Its Groove in Tier 4

The U13 Avalanche have been moved from Tier 3 down to Tier 4, which looks to be a better fit this season with a roster full of first-year players.

On Saturday, they hosted Wainwright and came out on top 5–3. Jase “The Jackal” Malo led the way with four goals, while “Jumbo Jay” Large added another. It was a full team effort — Jaydn “The Shark” Sakowsky tallied two assists, and Stetson “Shack” Reynolds, Christian “Bones 2.0” Grayson, “Big Bang” Koppang, “Hurricane Kael” Large, Obrey “The Big O” John, Gabriel “The Dangerous” Dion, and Rylan “Freight Train” Kryzanowski all picked up helpers.

Bonnyville Rents the Ice — Avalanche Rents the Scoreboard

On Sunday, the Avalanche faced the Bonnyville Pontiacs — technically a “home” game for Bonnyville, who rented ice at the A.G. Ross Arena since they were short of ice time. Either way, the Avalanche stayed home and came out on top 9–2.

The Pontiacs didn’t play badly — shots were close (34–32 in favour of the Avalanche) — but Avalanche goalie “Benny Boy” Benjamin Saddleback slammed the door shut.

Big Bang Koppang scored twice in the first, with Thomas “The Tank” Morris assisting on one. The Avalanche added two more in the second from Shack Reynolds and The Jackal Malo, while the Pontiacs’ Mason Graham replied to make it 4–1 after forty minutes.

In the third, Shack picked up his second of the game and an assist, while The Jackal went coast-to-coast for three more, giving him four total on the day. Hurricane Kael Large blasted one from the point to round out the scoring, with Freight Train Kryzanowski adding an assist. Graham notched his second of the game for Bonnyville.

I’m sure these two teams will cross paths again before the season’s done.
