From Moose Lake to municipal leadership, Audrey Campbell brings 45 years of volunteer experience and a lifelong connection to the Lakeland.
Roots in the Lakeland
Audrey Campbell has lived her entire life in the Municipal District of Bonnyville, and for most of it, she’s been serving her community through volunteerism. She and her husband Rob have called Moose Lake home for nearly three decades, where they enjoy gardening, sharing produce with neighbours, and the company of their children, Jason and Geoff, along with three grandchildren and two step-grandchildren.
Before moving to Moose Lake, the couple hobby-farmed in Iron River, the community where Audrey grew up and first began volunteering.
Audrey is now looking to serve her community in an even larger capacity – as the Councillor for Ward 2 of the MD of Bonnyville.
Decades of community service
Campbell’s public involvement began when she joined the Municipal Planning Commission for the former Improvement District, chairing within a year. That role sparked decades of service on local boards and committees.
Her record includes:
- Two terms as a School Board Trustee with Lakeland Catholic School District
- Nine years on the Family & Community Support Services (FCSS) Board
- Three years on the Bonnyville Centennial Centre Board (C2)
- Three years—and currently serving as Chair—of the Bonnyville Health Centre Community Board
- Six years as a Volunteer Advocate with Victim Services
- Ten years on the North East Gas Co-op Board
- Over 40 years volunteering with St. Louis Parish in Bonnyville
- And 25 years as a business owner
Campbell has also volunteered with many other organizations over the years, including Lakeland Industry & Community Association (LICA), Western Canadian Spill Services (WCSS), and Lakeland Co-op.
Servant leadership and experience at the table
Drawing on her long history in public service, Campbell says she follows a philosophy of servant leadership—empowering others to take the lead while modelling respect and collaboration. She’s no stranger to boardroom discussions, having served as both a member and chair across community, school, and health-related organizations.
Campbell believes unity is key. “You may not always agree,” she says, “but when you walk away from the table, you do so as one.”
Health care advocacy and community voice
Currently, the chairperson of the Bonnyville Health Centre Community Board, Campbell and her team advocate to the Covenant Health Board in Edmonton on behalf of local residents. Their recent work includes, but is not limited to, advocating for Covenant Health and the Voice for Covenant in our community. They are calling for additional health-care aides in long-term care facilities after concerns were raised by community members.
She was also appointed to Alberta’s Region 5 Regional Health Advisory Council, where she represents the Bonnyville area and hopes to strengthen local influence on health discussions.
Why she’s running
Campbell has previously run for municipal council, losing by just 50 votes in a past race. She says she’s running again because she “loves serving people” and wants to bring that same dedication to council chambers.
“I’ve worked in provincial and federal politics,” she explains, “but I like municipal the best—it’s where you’re directly connected to the people.”
Priorities if elected
- Streamlining development: Campbell wants to simplify permits, fees, and development processes to make it easier for residents to build, grow, and invest in the MD.
- Strengthening regional ties: She believes stronger collaboration between the MD, Town of Bonnyville, City of Cold Lake, and Village of Glendon will benefit the whole region.
- Listening first: After door knocking nearly 90% of Ward 2, Campbell has been compiling residents’ concerns and plans to bring those issues forward as her working platform.
A promise to keep showing up
Campbell pledges to continue door knocking one Saturday each month throughout her term if elected, to maintain a direct connection with residents. She also commits to answering every call and message and to meeting face-to-face whenever possible.
“When people reach out,” she says, “the first thing I ask is—would you like me to come over and we’ll talk?”
