Town of Smoky Lake Recognized with Provincial Award for Development Streamlining Initiative
The Town of Smoky Lake is proud to announce that it has been selected as the 2025 winner of the Minister’s Awards for Municipal and Public Library Excellence in the Red Tape Reduction or Service Delivery Enhancement (Under 10,000) category.
The award was granted in recognition of the Town’s innovative “Development Streamlining Initiative”, which promotes residential growth and improves service delivery by simplifying processes and enhancing development support. A key element of the initiative was the appointment of a dedicated Development Officer to assist with planning, streamline approvals, and support sustainable community growth.
Mayor Cherniwchan expressed gratitude for the honour, stating, “This award is a testament to the ongoing commitment of our Council, Administration, and community stakeholders who continuously strive to make Smoky Lake an attractive, efficient, and forward-thinking municipality.”
The Minister of Municipal Affairs, Dan Williams, commended the Town for its leadership and peer-recognized efforts, noting that Smoky Lake’s initiative will be showcased on the Government of Alberta’s website and social media platforms to highlight municipal best practices across the province.
This recognition underscores Smoky Lake’s dedication to innovation, collaboration, and building a resilient community through strategic service enhancements.
