Avalanche Dominate the Ice: U11 Team Strikes Gold Again!

U11 Avalanche Earn Second Gold Medal of the Year

Another gold medal for our U11 Avalanche team to hang on the wall—their second one since the start of 2025!

After winning gold at the Bonnyville tournament during the first weekend of January, the Avalanche hosted their home tournament this past weekend and secured another championship win. Six teams travelled to compete, some from as far away as Drayton Valley—a five-hour drive in good weather, never mind what we had this past weekend.

In their first game on Friday night, the Avalanche faced Drayton Valley and came out on top with a 5-2 victory. Team captain Jase “The Jackal” Malo led the charge with a hat trick. Cohen “Big Horn” Brousseau netted two goals, while Landon “Lights Out” St. Arnault added an assist. Aspyn “Machine Gun” Kelly earned the MVP award, and Maximus “To the Max” Laliberté took home the Heart and Hustle award.

Saturday morning saw the Avalanche take on another long-distance opponent, the Edmonton North Stars, defeating them 9-3. The Jackal scored four goals, Machine Gun Kelly added two, and To the Max, along with Christian “Bones 2.0” Yaremkevich, each found the back of the net. Towering defenceman Kael “Hurricane Kael” Large not only scored but was also named MVP of the game. Called up from the U9 farm team to play alongside his big brother, little farmhand Gavin “The Badger” Brousseau was awarded the Heart and Hustle award.

Sunday morning was a dominant performance for the Avalanche, securing an easy win over Athabasca. Goalie “Benny Boy” Saddleback was outstanding all weekend and took home MVP honours. Big Horn Brousseau scored four goals and was awarded the Heart and Hustle award, while The Jackal cleaned up around the net with a double hat trick. Bones 2.0, Machine Gun Kelly, and Hurricane Kael all chipped in a goal.

In the gold medal final, the Avalanche faced a familiar opponent—the Bonnyville Pontiacs, a team they’ve battled many times in league play. It was great to see two teams from our league competing for the championship. The Jackal, Machine Gun Kelly, and Big Horn all scored, while rookies Blake “The Rattlesnake” Fontaine and Raiden “Radar” Savadra provided assists. To the Max and The Jackal shared MVP honours, while Damian “Fog Horn” Ockerman took home the Heart and Hustle award.

In even more exciting news, the U11 Avalanche has been selected as the host site for the North East League division final tournament, happening March 7–9. Mark it down and come watch our little all-stars in action!
