Park in Cold Lake North to get development plan

City council has committed funded to build a new park in Cold Lake North.

The Lakeridge Neighborhood Park will get off the ground, at least in the development of a plan, following a $27,000 spend commitment last week from council’s unrestricted surplus.

Lobbying from residents grew stronger last September, with a push for a park in the area of 12 and 14 Avenue and 13 Street in Cold Lake North.

“We’re going to get a design for sure. Things don’t move at lightning speed. It’s all about funding. Right now, we’re going to get a design drawing. We had to figure out that piece of property that we’ve identified. It also is a big storm pond area, and so staff have had a good look at it,” said Copeland.

“Now we’ll hire somebody to do a do a design of what a park could be there. I know that residents wanted us to come in and purchase the lots that are on 16th Street. That’s probably half a mill [million] to purchase that land. It’s already been zoned now for multifamily. It hasn’t developed yet.

“It’s an area that doesn’t really have a park, and it’s been missed, and so Council is going to put the money towards a design, and then I’m sure it’s going to either come in front of us this fall for a brand new park or next fall. It all depends on how things move along. We just first had to figure out about the stormwater pond that’s in there.”
