Restrictions on some fire activities with the drought like conditions in Alberta are now in effect locally.

The Bonnyville Regional Fire Authority has issued a fire restriction for the M.D. of Bonnyville, Village of Glendon, and Summer Villages of Bonnyville Beach and Pelican Narrows.

There are currently 50 wildfires burning in Alberta, with a total of 148 in 2024 alone, according to provincial data.

What this means:

  • This means that existing fire permits are suspended and no new fire permits will be issued. 
  • Safe wood campfires within fire rings in campgrounds are still allowed. 
  • Essential burning may be allowed with written permission from a forest officer or fire guardian.  

Prohibited:

  • All outdoor wood fires are banned on public lands, including backcountry and random camping areas.
  • Fireworks and exploding are prohibited.

Allowed:

  • Safe wood campfires (including charcoal briquettes) on private land and in provincial campgrounds is still allowed. 
  • Backyard fire pits, charcoal briquette barbeques 
  • Propane/natural gas powered appliances 
  • Indoor wood fires contained within a device with a chimney and spark arrestor 
  • Cooking, warming, and lighting devices – all devices must be CSA approved and used a per manufacturer’s standards
