Silas Fagnan will get another chance to impress scouts this spring.

The former Bonnyville Voyageurs quarterback, who plays collegiate football at St. Francis Xavier wrapped up his third season last fall and has earned a spot in the East-West Bowl.

The top U Sports athletes from 27 universities will face-off East against West in Waterloo, Ontario this May.

But the event takes place over several days May 6-11, with a scouting combine where athletes are put through various exercises.

Canadian Football League teams are there to scout for the draft in the spring.

Fagnan recently earned team MVP honours as he helped guide his team to an Atlantic University Sport championship and Mitchell Bowl appearance, the national semi-final.

In the regular season, Fagnan threw for a league-leading 2,075 yards, almost twice as much as the next closest. With a 60 per cent completion percentage, he tossed 13 touchdowns to just six interceptions, while also leading the AUS in completions and attempts.

The Loney Bowl (AUS championship), the Bonnyville QB threw for 207 yards on just 11 completions, while earning two touchdowns en route to the 34-23 victory.

It was St. FX’s three consecutive Loney Bowl title.

However, the Mitchell Bowl would be their conclusion, as a dominant 3rd quarter for the University of British Columbia Thunderbirds snuffed out the X-Men’s hopes in a lopsided 47-17 victory.

But off the field, Fagnan hasn’t let his grades slip. He was selected as an All-Canadian for his academic and athletic prowess.

Perhaps the Calgary Stampeders will keep tabs on Fagnan.

Last summer, he got to show the pros his stuff at the Stamps’ rookie and main camps, as part of the Canadian Quarterbacks Internship, where they take the top college quarterbacks from around Canada to experience a pro training camp with a CFL team.
