SPORTSHOUND: Pink Day at the A.G. Ross Arena

It was a busy weekend for the town of Elk Point. Not only was it the 39th annual Oilmen’s Bonspiel, but it was also Pink Day at the A. G. Ross Arena. Last year, Pink Day was initiated by our U15 parents, and everyone got on board.  This past Saturday Elk Point Minor Hockey declared it their second annual Pink Day. All the proceeds from the 50/50 sales on Saturday were donated towards cancer. All  Elk Point teams hosted a home game on Saturday and the visiting teams were made aware of it ahead of time and also followed suit, making it a full day from 8.30 am when the U7s Avalanche hit the ice until almost 10 pm when the U18’s game was over.

 

U11 Avalanche

After the U7 and U9 games, the U11 team hosted Mallaig, coming out on top of that one 11 to 5. Jase ‘the Jackal’ Malo with eight goals. Stetson ‘Shack’ Reynolds with two goals and an assist. Kael Large also scored a goal  Set up man Grayson ‘ Big Bang’ Koppang with three assists. Terraleigh Napoose-Gadwa, Christian ‘ Bones 2.0 ‘ Yaremkevich, Mikey ‘ the Beast’ L’Heureux, and ‘Dax My Boy’ Bowman all with assists.

On Sunday, the U 11 team traveled to Frog Lake, coming home with the win. Big Bang with a hat trick. Charlie ‘Chickadee’ Davis, Jaydn ‘the Shark’ Sakowski, Kael Large, the Beast, Jackal, Teraleigh, and Bone.20 all scored in this one. 

U13 Avalanche

The U13s played a home-and-home series against the Dewberry/Marwayne Renegade this past weekend, traveling there on Friday night, winning 7 to 3, then hosting on Saturday, winning that one 6 to 3. Jaxon ‘Magic’ Marcoux with four goals and an assist on Saturday. Hudson ‘ the Bull’ Brousseau with two goals and two assists. Team captain William ‘Billy Bob’ Ballas set up four goals. Jesse James Penner and Brody ‘the Thrasher’ Trach each with a helper. Theo ‘Long Horn’ Loughran-Quinney and ‘Major Tom’ Melnyk share the goaltending duties.  

On Sunday, the U13 hosted Westlock in a doubleheader, winning both games. 5 to 2  in the first game. 4 to 2 the score in the second game. ‘Fearless Frank’ Killiam with a goal in the second game. Wingers Ryder ‘Rhino’ Malo, Delany ‘Downtown’ Swedgen and Hunter ‘Hardrock’ Pankiw with assists. Although not shown at all on the game sheet, doing all the dirty work and seeing no glory,  blueliners Hudson ‘the Hammer’ Krankowski and Ethan ‘the Big E’ Lorenson contributed to the wins in a big way.

U15 Avalanche

The undefeated league-leading U15 Avalanche defeated Bonnyville on Saturday 7 to 4. Braylee ‘Free Willy’ Lesyk with four goals.Remington ‘ Steel’ Reynolds,  Liam ‘Sledgehammer’ Swedgen and Alexander Naistus with one goal each. ‘Boe Dog’ St George, Reese Winterbottom, ‘Wild Wyatt’ Fontaine, Brendan ‘Buzz Saw’ Kadutski, Jaxon ‘ Smitty’ Smith, Tristin ‘Bobcat’ Brousseau, Rylan Quinney, and ‘Without a Trace’ Morgan with the assists.

 On Sunday, the U15 won 4 to 1 over Wabasca in a rare early Sunday morning game. Unsung hero Kestyn ‘Crocodile’ Quinney is on the game sheet with an assist. Ollie the Goalie Owen Grykuliak and Thesson ‘Mc Goalie’ McRorie share the goaltending duties. 

U18 Avalanche

The U 18s finished off the day Saturday with a 6 to 2 win over Cold Lake. Kade ‘Kamikaze Kid’ Fontaine with two goals and two assists. ‘Top Gunner’ Crawford with two goals. Gavin ‘Green Light’ Kadutski with a goal and two assists. ‘Saint Nick’ Penner also scored a goal. Evett ‘Snoop Dog’ Smereka with two assists. Kaysen ‘Dynamite’ De Moissac and ‘Cyclone Cole’ Pierce also added assists.

On Sunday, the U 18s hosted the Vermilion Tigers, winning this one 4 to 1. Kamikaze Kid, Green Light, Top Gunner and Seth ‘Motorman’ Morton scored. Quinton ‘Rampage’ Quinney, ‘Bo Diddley’ Fontaine and Kaleb ‘Formula One’ Flamand with assists. Mason Ehnes and ‘Mr Plywood’ Alex Patterson share the goaltending duties.
