Road rage incident leads to seizure of several guns in Cold Lake
Police in Cold Lake seized dozens of guns following an investigation where a man threatened a driver with a handgun after a road rage incident.
The incident happened early morning on July 28.
Victims reported to the RCMP they were chased from a gas station after an interaction at the location involving an unknown male.
It was reported that the male chased the victim’s vehicle at one point, stopping and beating on their vehicle window.
The chase then continued to a nearby intersection where it was alleged that the same male produced a handgun and pointed it at the victims before they were able to eventually evade the male.
Cold Lake RCMP’s General Investigations Section initiated an investigation into this matter and on Thursday, Aug. 17, conducted an arrest of a male and executed a search warrant at a residence in the area of Cold Lake North.
With the assistance of the RCMP’s Emergency Response Team (ERT), police executed the search warrant and located over 60 firearms and a large quantity of ammunition inside.
Police determined that many of the firearms were not properly stored and/or were not legally possessed.
Subsequent to the search, police also located approximately 92 grams of suspected cocaine, $2700.00 in Canadian currency, and other drug paraphernalia consistent with trafficking.
Frederick James Daly, 42, of Cold Lake has been charged with:
- Pointing a Firearm
- Dangerous Operation of a Motor Vehicle
- Possession of a Controlled Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking
- Possession of Proceeds of Crime
- Unsafe Storage of a Firearm
- Possession of a Restricted/Prohibited Firearm with ammunition.
Daly was taken before a justice of the peace and remanded into custody and will appear at the Alberta Court of Justice in Bonnyville on Aug. 22, 2023.
