U18 AA Braves go 2-1 in Lloydminster

The Braves were off to Lloydminster for another three game set.

They played their first game on Saturday vs the St Albert Cardinals.  The Braves started the game off with a bang going up 8-0 in the first 2 innings. Kobe Warawa went 3-3 at the plate and also came in for the last three innings to close out the game. Sam Atwal had a good outing at the plate going 2-4.  Heaton Houle pitched a solid inning in relief with 2 SO and also was 1-2 at the plate. The Braves took their foot off the gas and the game tightened up to 8-4 at the end, but overall a good outing to start the weekend.

Next up on the back to back was the Edmonton Padres.  Keagan Locke started the game and had a great outing going 4 innings with only 1 ER and 3 SO.  Keagan left the game in a 1-1 deadlock as the Braves bats couldn’t get rolling.  Ethan Walgren came in to finish pitching the game and pitched very well only giving up 1ER with 5 SO over 3 innings.  With pitching like that you would hope to get a victory out of the game, however, the Padres threw their ace as well who also had a very good game.  Zach Lapointe went 2-3 at the plate and caught all three games on the weekend which is no easy task.  The Braves ended up losing a close 4-2 ball game in a hard fought battle.  Lots of good lessons were learned and great to be in a close ball game.

Sunday afternoon the Braves had a game against the host Lloydminster twins.  The twins own the season series 2-0 and the Braves were hoping to get a little revenge.  Braves started Carter Goreniuk threw a great complete game with only 4 ER and 5 SO over 7 innings.  With the pitch count its not easy to get a complete game out of a pitcher.  The Braves jumped out to a 11-4 lead and Carter did his job shutting down the Twins.  Seth Cobourne was hot at the plate going 2-4 with an RBI.  Cadogan Rachynski went 1-2 at the plate with an RBI.  Cade McConnell also had a good day a the plate going 2-3 with a double. The Braves were able to get the win in this one, not without a little excitement at the end when they started booting the ball in the final inning giving the Twins a little hope as the score tightened to 11-8, however, Carter was able to strike out the final batter giving the Braves the much needed final out.
