A homecoming for the Bensmillers as WPCA Chuckwagons hits Dewberry

It will be a family affair for the Bensmillers as they race in their hometown of Dewberry this weekend.

The next stop on the World Professional Chuckwagon Association begins tonight and runs until Sunday.

Kurt, Chance, and Cruise will all be in the wagons looking to impress on their home track.

“It’s nice to have like to get the family aspect of it. They all live here, so it’s nice to see them out. They come out, see the horses at the barns and just be around us,” Cruise said, Kurt and Chance’s nephew.

There were many years for Kurt that he wouldn’t race in Dewberry since at that time it was on the CPCA circuit.

“I’ve always enjoyed Dewberry. When I first qualified for the WPCA was the only time I got to run here,” Kurt said. It’s just nice to be here.”

Meanwhile Chance is the only Bensmiller to win in Dewberry, besides his dad Buddy. But for him, he’ll be focused on the task at hand.

“It don’t matter where you’re at. I mean, it’s where your mindset is before you go out there and run. You have friends and family, so I guess there is a little added extra pressure because if you hit a barrel, you know your buddies are gonna come back after the race and bug you so it is a little bit different, but about the same,” said Chance.

The first Dewberry racing event was held back in 1976.
