Cold Lake Fighter Jets dominate season opener on the road

The Cold Lake Fighter Jets Football Club is starting the 2023 season strongly, closing their first away game in a massive 36-1 victory against the Peace Country Cowboys on June 3.

The Jets faced a bit of a scare on the road to the first game of the season after the bus got a flat tire while still an hour away.

Luckily, the Cowboys came to the rescue with half a dozen vehicles and loaded the team and their gear up so the game could go on.

“My expectations remain the same, we are national champions, and we have a target on our backs after proving ourselves last year,” said Damen Schaub, Founder/General Manager.

“We got some guys who have been with us since 2019, we brought in some guys from out of province and we are all ready to win together.”

The Fighter Jets are the team everyone wants to beat after finishing with two titles last season, but the mission is clear for the team, to go back to back in winning the titles and become the first Alberta team to do so in Canadian Major Football League history.

Last season the Jets had a 6-0 regular season record going undefeated, the team went on to win the Alberta Football League championship game and become the winners of the Western Conference in a 55-0 shutout against the Airdrie Irish

They then went on to win the National Championships in the Canadian Major Football League 35-18 against the Northern Conference champs The GTA All Stars from Ontario.

“We are trying to get the entire Lakeland to know who we are and continue our success and put Cold Lake on the map on the CMFL stage,” said Schaub.

The next two games the Jets will play at home on the gridiron at the Cold Lake Energy Centre.

On June 10 they take on the Calgary Wolfpack, kickoff at 6:00 p.m. and then on June 17 the Airdrie Irish at 6:00 p.m.
