On May 21, 2023, at approximately 4 a.m., Vermilion RCMP responded to a commercial alarm at a business located within the Town of Vermilion. Officers attended the location and initial investigation revealed a break and enter had occurred. A lone male suspect was identified.
At approximately 10:28 a.m. on the same day, Vermilion RCMP received a complaint of a theft of a truck which had just occurred within the Town of Vermilion. Officers patrolled the area and located the stolen truck a short time later. Two individuals were identified as being involved with the stolen vehicle and were arrested at the scene.
Christopher Lane (41), a resident of Vermilion, has been charged with the following:
- Theft of a truck
- Possession of stolen property under $5000
- Theft, forgery, misuse of a credit card
- Possession of suspected fentanyl
- Drive while unauthorized contrary to the Traffic Safety Act
Sheila Heller (63), a resident of Vermilion, has been charged with the following:
- Theft of a truck
- Possession of suspected methamphetamine
Heller was released on an Undertaking with various conditions and court set for July 17, 2023, at Alberta Court of Justice in Vermilion. Lane was held for a judicial interim release hearing. Following the hearing, Lane was released on a release order with various conditions and court set for June 5, 2023, at Alberta Court of Justice in Vermilion.
“In this case, an immediate call to police regarding the stolen truck allowed for a quick response and patrol which led to the recovery of the truck and arrest of two individuals. Excellent work by the officers involved.” Says Sgt. Corey Buckingham, Vermilion RCMP Detachment Commander.
