On May 20, 2023, at approximately 12:30 a.m., Vermilion RCMP were called to a robbery against a person that had just occurred in the Town of Vermilion. Officers attended the location and began an investigation where it was determined a weapon was involved in the robbery. Investigation identified a lone male responsible and charges were initiated with efforts to locate the suspect male.
On May 22, 2023, at approximately 8:24 a.m., Vermilion RCMP received a call about a male that had been assaulted with bear spray in the Town of Vermilion. Officers attended and began an investigation where it was determined there were two victims and the incident also involved a home invasion. The lone suspect male was located and arrested a short time later.
As a result of the investigations, Andrew James Prill (37), a resident of Vermilion, has been charged with the following offences:
- Robbery with a weapon
- Aggravated assault
- Assault with a weapon (2 counts)
- Break and enter to a residence
- Possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose
- Mischief under $5000
Prill was held for a Judicial Interim Release hearing. Following the hearing, Prill was released on a release order with court set for June 5, 2023, at Alberta Court of Justice in Vermilion.
“In these two incidents, the suspect was known to the victims involved. Vermilion RCMP had a very busy weekend but worked tirelessly to remove this individual from the general public as soon as possible.” Says Sgt. Corey Buckingham, Vermilion RCMP Detachment Commander.
