Dragonfly receives over $50K in funding to help tackle wait list

A Lakeland center that helps sexual assault survivors is receiving provincial dollars to help deliver services.

Back in early April, the Government of Alberta announced $4.2 million in victim supports to help alleviate the long wait lists to be seen.

The Dragonfly Counselling and Support Centre in Bonnyville received $52,170.

“I have spent time meeting with organizations and am glad to see that this funding is being used to address the immediate concerns of counselling wait-lists,” said Tanya Fir, parliamentary secretary for Status of Women, in a press release.

“It is critical that when somebody reaches out, help is available. Our government’s response to this concern is ensuring that sexual assault survivors across the province can get the support they need and deserve.”

The Dragonfly serves clients in Bonnyville, Cold Lake, St. Paul, Lac La Biche, while reaching four Metis communities and seven First Nations.
