Assisted living facility in Bonnyville still a go as work hoped to be done by Sept.
The construction of an assisted living facility is still in the works right now in Bonnyville, with hopes it could open its doors and take seniors in the fall or early winter.
Bridge to Care Inc. bought the former Midtown Motor Inn on Main Street Bonnyville in 2022 and began work on the site.
While behind on their original timelines, the project is still a go.
“We are planning to provide assisted living facilities in Bonnyville,” said Praise Abraham, CEO of Bridge to Care.
“We are also planning to have a space for which Bridge to Care’s regional office will be dedicated. We are also planning to provide special needs disability services as well to the community. We are planning for some group homes down the line,” he said.
The current plan would see 30 rooms for independent living and 26 rooms for assisted living spaces. Individuals with “higher needs” would also have rooms dedicated for them.
Abraham said they are hoping to finish the building by September. After that, there would be inspections by Alberta Health Services to have the beds licensed, a process that could take a couple of months.
Through that process, that’s when Bridge to Care could then accept intakes.
As an AHS service provider, potential applicants would have to go through them first.
The current dig-up seen as motorists drive past is to put in an elevator shaft.
Work that is finished or in the process includes replacing the entire flooring of the building, re-engineering the heating systems, creating a recreation room for seniors, and a common dining area.
External work to give the building a facelift could be done after the rest is finished.
Based in Spruce Grove, Abraham says they are looking to provide services for the northeast, and could explore options for Cold Lake and St. Paul.
