A 57-year-old male driver from Calgary has been charged with Careless Driving and Driving at an Unreasonable Rate of Speed for striking a tow truck driver in the Lakeland.
A tow truck operator was struck by a passing vehicle on Friday evening around 7:15 p.m. on Highway 28 near Range Road 482. Station 3 Glendon and Station 5 Bonnyville were on the scene, as they had responded to a three-vehicle collision.
A tow truck operator was attempting to hook up to a pickup truck when a passing pickup clipped the operator. The operator was transported to Bonnyville Health Centre via EMS.
On January 7, the Bonnyville RCMP received a report that a truck had struck a pedestrian. The RCMP immediately attended the scene of the collision.
Staff Sgt. Sarah Parke from the Bonnyville RCMP says, “While both these offences carry a minimum specified penalty (fine), both charges were issued to the driver by way of Summons which will require a mandatory court appearance on February 22 and if found guilty it will be the Judge that specifies any fine associated with the sentence.”
The victim sustained non-life threatening injuries and continues to recover.
