PLAMONDON – One of Lac La Biche County’s multi-year capital projects is nearing the finish line, with Phase II of Plamondon Square expected to be completed this year.

The park was designed to provide another gathering space in the community, with elements recognizing the industries and cultures that have helped shape Plamondon.

One of the more noticeable additions is a section of pipe donated by Enbridge. The feature was incorporated into the design as a nod to the industry’s role in the community and its history.

The County says work on Phase II is scheduled to wrap up in 2026.

To celebrate, a Party in the Park is planned for Sept. 25, with more details expected closer to the event.

Additional funding approved last year

The project received additional funding in May 2025 when council moved money from its Stabilization Reserve to finish several capital projects already underway.

At the time, $60,000 was allocated for Plamondon Village Square to cover contingency costs, additional project management fees, signage and installation of the pipe donated by Enbridge.

It was part of a larger $1.335-million reallocation that included additional funding for the Hylo Outdoor Rink, Owl River Truck Fill Station, Mission Road Walking Trail, Emergency Vehicle Operations Course and Beaver Lake Landfill.

During that discussion, Mayor Paul Reutov said the County had more than 60 projects underway and described the funding adjustment as largely a cleanup intended to get projects across the finish line.

“This is largely a cleanup for summer construction, so that all these projects would get completed and utilized or usable,” Reutov said during the May 2025 council meeting.

Council unanimously approved the additional funding.

With Plamondon Square now nearing completion, residents will have their chance to gather in the finished space when the Party in the Park is held on Sept. 25.
