Two separate grass fires over the weekend kept Vermilion Fire & Rescue Society busy.

A fire on Friday, October 22,  south of the Town of Vermilion took some time to get under control and extinguish due to several mitigating factors. Chief Roth cleared the call around 10:00 p.m.

Then on Saturday, October 23, tones dropped for a field fire near Range Road 80. The caller reported a growing fire with buildings being threatened.

“Crews responded quickly and made short work of the fire preventing any damages,” County Fire Chief Kirk Hughes said. “With early morning frost and cooler temperatures, it may seem like the threat of wildfires has diminished – it hasn’t. Be on guard.”
