A serious accident in Cold Lake First Nations involving a RCMP vehicle has sent two people to hospital.

According to police, “On Aug. 21, at approximately 7:00 p.m., the Cold Lake RCMP were advised there was a motor vehicle collision involving a police motor vehicle and a civilian vehicle on Range Road 430, off of Highway 28.”

Cpl. Teri-Ann Bakker is a Media Relations Officer with the RCMP.

“Preliminary investigation reveals environmental factors, including gravel road dust, may have affected visibility, which resulted in a collision between these two vehicles,” Cpl. Bakker told Lakeland Connect. “Both lone occupants were taken to hospital. The civilian received non-life threatening injuries.”

Lakeland Connect spoke with a family member of the male civilian driver. She told us that her cousin who is 43-years-old, was airlifted to Edmonton via STARS Air Ambulance, and received several broken bones which included his legs, wrist and ankle. He also has a brain injury the family member told Lakeland Connect.

“The RCMP member received non-life threatening injuries and is expecting a full recovering,” Cpl. Bakker said.

Both vehicles involved were extremely damaged in the collision.
