Are you interested in growing a garden but don’t have the space for one? The Community Garden in Alexander Hamilton Park in the hamlet of Lac La Biche has plots available for residents to grow their own plants and produce.

 Jacob Marfo is Lac La Biche County’s Agricultural Fieldsman.

“This 40-plot garden is located at Alexander Hamilton Park in the hamlet of Lac La Biche. Plots are allocated on first-come, first-served basis, though the program which even also allows returning gardeners to have a choice of plot, even if they apply a little late,” Marfo said.

There is no cost to participate in the Community Garden program.

“The County supports the gardeners by providing free land to garden, in addition to tilling the garden, controlling weeds in communal garden areas, providing soil amendment measures, and water for irrigation purposes,” Marfo explained. “Some of the benefits of our program include helping residents stay healthy and active, encouraging socializing with other gardeners, obtaining healthy food, and staying in touch with nature.”

The garden is fenced and has a water tank and a composter on-site.
