CARE event connects families with recreation

The yearly event helps residents get involved in the community.

Lac La Biche FCSS is hosting a Community Awareness & Registration Event (Care) at the Bold Center next week.

From 4 pm to 7 pm on September 3, residents can discover opportunities to get out into the community for free.

“The Community Awareness Registration Event is a great opportunity for our residents to learn about local recreation programs, volunteer opportunities, and special interest clubs,” said Jihad Moghrabi, communications manager, Lac La Biche County.

There are 30 community groups that will be at the event for locals to learn about and get involved with. Moghrabi says the event is going to be especially beneficial to those who haven’t been in Lac La Biche very long.

“If you’re new to the community or just looking for a new way to spend your time, attending CARE is the perfect first step to finding out what Lac La Biche County has to offer.”

Some of the groups that will be in attendance include Community Futures, Kabz Martial Arts, the Kinette Club of Lac La Biche, Lakeland Archers, Lac La Biche County Libraries, Lac La Biche Regional Humane Society, Lac La Biche Museum, Lac La Biche Minor Ball, and more.

Rene Shaub, has been the president of Lakeland Archers for over 25 years and will be attending the CARE event again.

“It’s a good event because it’s right before we start for fall and winter sports, so it’s good to get out there and show the community what sports we have to offer,” said Schaub.

Lakeland Archers has indoor and outdoor archery for all ages, their youngest archers starting at three-and-a-half-years old.

“The whole family can come and shoot, we find that there are not enough sports that the family can do together, so this is what we push. We try to get the whole family involved. If everyone’s doing it, everyone’s happy,” said Schaub.

Schaub says in previous years the event has attracted roughly 200 to 300 people.

The organizers have accounted for this and are prepared to make the event as safe as possible for everybody.

“To keep the community safe and healthy, COVID-19 precautions are being taken. All attendees and vendors are asked to physical distance at the event and wear masks if they are able,” said Moghrabi.

“Hand sanitizer will be supplied and everyone will be required to fill out a COVID screening form as they enter.”
