Vermilion Farmer’s Market is back

Community members gathered at the Vermilion Elk’s Hall for the first Farmer’s Market of the season on Tuesday, followed by their first ever evening market on Thursday.

Evelyn Throndson attended the market for the past 40 years and managed it for approximately 25 years, but when COVID-19 hit she decided to take a break.

The Vermilion Elks Lodge is the official governing body for the Vermilion Farmer’s Market, and they have welcomed Dawn Riley as the new Market Manager.

Riley said this year guests and vendors are looking forward to having an extended hour on Tuesdays, and to trying out the evening markets.

If tournament life resumes in the coming months, they may implement some Saturdays, and will be wrapping up the year with the annual Christmas market.

She is currently researching a children’s program available in the province and hopes to incorporate some youth vendors.

“I’ve been here 21 years, and this community takes you right in and accepts you,” said Riley.

“When you support the Vermilion Farmer’s Market, you are supporting local community members.”

Customers enjoyed perusing the baking, Ukrainian specialties, fresh produce, and handmade masks and other crafts.

They are open Tuesday’s 10:00am-2:00pm and Thursday’s 4:00-7:00pm.
